Marine Power Systems were requested to conduct borescopic inspections and condition surveys of three Scania DI12 and DI9 diesel engines onboard a Mussel harvesting barge operating from Coromandel town.

Using a 6mm Olympus articulating videoscope, the condition of the cylinder liners, piston crowns, valves, manifolds and turbochargers were able to be observed and reported. The customer felt confident knowing the true condition of the engines and they were able to develop long-term maintenance and ultimately ‘replacement’ schedules.

Videoscope technology saves customers money and downtime over the traditional ‘strip and report’ procedure. The non-evasive nature of the inspection also means less chance of maintenance-induced defects.
