Torsional vibration is a damaging condition caused by an oscillation of torque on drive shafts. This is especially true of shafts coupled to reciprocating machinery such as internal combustion engines and compressors. Torsional vibrations can lead to accelerated fatigue and failure often in the form of broken shafts.

Marine Power Systems are able to measure torsional vibrations in the field using the TorqueTrak 10K with strain gauges bonded to the driveshaft. Using sophisticated data acquisition software, torsional vibrations are able to be measured and plotted against the frequency spectrum. Problem areas will present themselves as peaks in the spectrum indicating areas for further analysis.
