Marine Power Systems showed supported a regular customer recently by providing assistance to repair and survey the propulsion shaft in a large mussel harvesting vessel. The shaft had become scored extensively and was leaking from the stern seal. Once the survey tasks were complete (crack testing and eccentricty check) it was decided that the best method of repair was to metal spray the shaft and machine back to correct dimensions. The shaft worn shaft bearings were replaced with high quality Thordon bearings together with the aluminium carrier and stern seal.
Upon reinstallation, a full alignment was carried out to ensure the shaft ran true and quietly.
Marine Power Systems have the ability to slip vessels either in the Kopu marine precinct or through our partners in Auckland. Please contact us today to discuss your requirements.
